Why exclusion works where deterrents do not
Reflective tape, gels and sound devices lose effect once birds learn that nothing follows. Netting removes access to the perch entirely, so there is nothing to get used to.
That is also why partial coverage rarely works. If one balcony in a stack is netted, the birds move a floor up. Consistent coverage across the affected elevation gives a far better result.
Residential bird netting
In homes and apartments, bird netting is most often fitted to balconies, windows, terraces and the shaded space around AC units. The priority is a clean, discreet finish, because the net will be part of how the home looks every day.
Commercial and society bird netting
Offices, hotels, hospitals, showrooms and food premises have a hygiene and reputation problem as well as a cleaning problem. Netting under canopies, over atria, across service voids and along facade recesses keeps droppings off entrances and walkways.
For housing societies, we usually survey the whole building rather than one flat, so the committee can see what the affected areas are and phase the work if needed.
Maintenance
- Check tension once a year — a sagging net is the first sign a fixing has loosened.
- Clear leaves and debris from the bottom edge of large spans.
- Have any cut or tear repaired quickly, since birds find an opening within days.
- Where a net covers an area you need to reach, ask for a zipped access panel at the time of installation.
